What necktie fabrics would be a good alternative to silk in terms of formality & drape?Updated 6 months ago

It depends on the season and the occasion. Wool is a great alternative to silk as it’s going to add a little bit of texture, and, depending on the pattern, could elevate the formality. It looks great with tailoring that is also made of heavier/textured fabric and is therefore commonly used during the fall and winter months.

Cotton knit ties are also a good substitute to silk and great for every season, although they are generally associated with being a little more casual. Pairs best with lighter weight fabrics.

So overall we recommend wool for the fall/winter, and cotton or linen for the spring/summer.
